Taiwan 2019 - Part 2.2

Continuation of Day 1 - Friday, October 18, 2019

For the second half of our Yehliu, Jiufen, and Shifen Day Tour with Taiwanese Pastry Making tour that we booked from Klook, we first went to Yehliu Geopark where we saw the various natural rock formations in the area and snapped a pic with the famous "Queen’s Head".

Different levels of reaction from 😐 to 😲

Yes, tourist mode on "we were here!"

Replica of the "Queen's Head" near the entrance.

Walang kamatayang "groufie!"

The actual "Queen's Head" was far from the entrance of the natural park. We only had an allotted time since we were in a group tour so we skipped most of the other natural rock formations and headed straight to the most pictured part.

The "ang haba ng pila so picture muna tayo" pic (notice the "panatang makabayan" pose; we often used the phone's hand gesture feature to take groufies 😁)

Konting kembot na lang...

Chukchess!

Peace! ✌

And finally, our last stop for this tour was at Shu Shin Bou Wagashi Museum where we created and tasted our very own Taiwanese pastries. We also saw there how most of their products are made which are super popular as "pasalubong".

At the entrance

Bumped into some fellow kababayans who were also in that tour.

Ready to make us some pineapple whatchamacallits. (sorna koya 😅 kumusta naman yung mga hand gestures namin?! 😂)

The pastries that we "hand-made" had a sort of tagging or number (can't remember exactly) on the plates so that after they bake it, we'd know which ones were ours. While waiting for our pastries to be ready, we toured on the museum and at the end was their store section where we bought a lot of "pasalubongs".

I know I snapped some photos of the finished product of the pastries that we made when we got back to our accommodation but I can't find it in the shared drive. Oh well, moving on...

So yeah, after we did the tour we were dropped on the same place we started (or somewhere near it) and thankfully it was just a stone throw's away to our rented place so we decided to first go back there, do some freshening up, leave a couple of things (a.k.a the "pasalubongs") then went on to NingXia Night Market for dinner!

Another mirror groufie! (may pa-outfit change si Steve)

Welcome to Ning Xia Rd. Night Market!

Pak! Mga nawawalang bata.

It was a relatively small night market compared to the other Taipei night markets in the city but we opted this one first because it was close to the Taipei station. We just walked from our place to this night market.

Of course, when in a night market, we feast! Here are a couple of snaps we took of the food scene there.

I think these were some sort of giant mushroom sprinkled with love, char, with somethin'-somethin. Taste-wise, not for me. I remember it was sorta bland.

Green thingies wrapped in what I think is pork meat? (hahahaha. sorry for the lame captions). We bought this from another stall and just placed it on the mushroom container.

Scallion pancakes.

IG shot!

Beef? Most probably. (sorry can't remember 😅 but what I think I could remember is that I think this was a little chewy. Still it's meat so yeah, a yes for me).

Steve calls this the adobo rice topping with guinisang kangkong on the side. I loved this one 'cause it has meat and rice (yeah baby!) and kangkong is one the few leafy vegetable I eat being a picky eater.

We scored a table and seats in this stall! Yay!

After having a delightful dinner at the night market, we bought ourselves some milk tea on our way back to our unit.

50 Lan (50嵐) - Here in the Philippines, the one in Rustan's supermarket in Alphaland Makati it's 50Tea. But definitely, the taste and quality is superior in Taiwan. I guess their tea leaves really do make a difference.

Grace's order.

My order. Some sort of fruit tea (probably green tea based).

Steve isn't a big fan of milk teas and coffee so it was only Grace and I who enjoyed the wide selections and brands of milk teas in Taiwan.

Before returning straight back to our place, we took some more photos and enjoyed the cool night and city lights.

Turista 1 - cute!

Turista 2 - nanlilimos yarn?! pengeng pag-ibig 😆 (I'm super awkward, I don't know how to properly pose).

Turista 3 - Cool.. Chill lang.

And that ends our first official "gala" day in the land of night markets and milk teas, Taiwan. (uuuuggghhh... I wanna go back so bad!)

Taiwan 2019 - Part 2.1

Day 1 - Friday, October 18, 2019

Refreshed and recharged, we woke up the next day ready to officially start our Taiwan adventure. We only had two items in the itinerary that day: (1) The Yehliu, Jiufen, and Shifen Day Tour with Taiwanese Pastry Making tour we booked from Klook and (2) Dinner at Ningxia Night Market.

We woke up early and headed straight towards the specified meeting place. As instructed in the voucher "Please wait at east gate 3 at Taipei main station on 08:45 and find the guide who wear blue 'ezfly' vest . If you have any problems, please dial 0965-162-200. Please keep you mobile reachable, in case of any emergency. Thank you."

Mirror groufie to check OOTD 📸

Even though the meeting place was close to our accommodation, we still went there early to make sure we'd be able to find our tour group and won't be left behind. We also grabbed some breakfast from the convenient stall inside the train station. While waiting for the tour to start, we snapped some photos (of course!).

Tourist mode on!

Found our group!

¡Adelante!

Our local tour guide.

First stop: Shifen where we selected and designed our own sky lantern and released it in the air for good luck.

Pwede na bang pumasa as a local? 🤣

The lantern that we bought has four sides (we just bought one and shared). We decided to write our own wishes on each side, and on the fourth side, we wrote a group message.

Steve's side of the lantern.

Grace's side (nobela ata 😂).

My side of the lantern (ang chaka ng sulat!).

Group message.

😁

Kung anu-anong pose ang pina-choreograph sa amin ni koya 😹

Watching the video above of releasing the sky lantern still gives me a small good amount of stress because we've witnessed a lantern by other group of tourists getting burned upon release (hay buti na lang talaga may pa-alog si koya).

Fly a sky lantern... Mission accomplished!

Ayan na ang tren! (char lang 😁)

Upo muna sa kalsada 😎

Groufie ulit while waiting for the tour bus.

Next stop: Explored the once prosperous town of Jiufen known for its narrow alleyways, teahouses, and variety of street food.

Jampacked entrance.

Paging the mother of a lost boy... 😂

Baguio City has prepared us well for the journey of a thousand steps and stairs 💪

Sabi ito raw yung inspiration for Studio Ghibli's movie "Spirited Away"

Water break! 💧

Of course, when in Taiwan... eat!!!

Street foodz.

Pak! Longganisa! 😅

"May cute dun oh..." 😜

Documentation purposes...

😝

Ang sarp nito 😋

We also tried the stinky tofu! It had a strong piercing smell and we could already smell it before we entered the alleyways but it wasn't that bad, it actually tasted good.

Pabili nga po ng paa.. este tokwa 😆

Inaabsorb talaga ni Grace yung amoy, balak nyang gawin perfume.

We also bought this "lumpia ice cream with shredded sweet nuts" for dessert

But what I really miss the most is this soy sauced soaked egg (I'm salivating as I type this). We only bought one each just to try, and we ate it as we went back up the lot where the bus was parked. We should've bought more. But I'll definitely eat this again when I go back.

Sobrang sarap nito!!! 🤤🤤🤤

I'll just put the second part of our day 1 tour on a separate post so this won't get super lengthy...
